Exhibitions and Publications


Since its founding in 1968, the Canadian Society for Asian Arts has mounted some forty-four exhibitions. The following is a list of major exhibitions and their respective accompanying catalogues.


1999 - "All About Blue"
CSAA's 30th Anniversary Exhibition on the blue aspects of Asian ceramics and textiles.
1998 - "Music of Borneo"
Randy Raine Reusch transcends time and distance through traditional music performed upon his many authentic instruments.
1998 - "Portraits From a Forgotten Kingdom"
A travelling exhibit of vivid photographs by internationally acclaimed Ulli Steltzer reveals the world of the minority societies of Lijiang.
1996-98 - "Dragons and Dragon Boats"
(Brochure by S. Carter, J. Fahrni, M. Palmer)
An international travelling exhibition of historical and contemporary dragon artifacts from Asia Pacific and other parts of the world.
1993-94 - "Clay and Cloth, Celebrations of Life and Death in Borneo"

Catalogue by J. Fahrni, T. Hinkle, J. Staniszkis, M. Palmer)
This exhibit presented to Vancouver, for the first time, artifacts from the remote
and fascinating island of Borneo.
1992 - "Blue and White Faience of Europe"
(Catalogue by J. E. Horvath and M. Chen)
A display of European blue and white porcelain presenting the Oriental influence on European culture.
1986 - "Six Ancient Capitals"
(Catalogue by Eric Woo)
With support from the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, this exhibition, displaying the architecture and design of ancient Chinese capitals, travelled to galleries and museums throughout Canada.
1979 - "Patterns of Persia"

1977 - "Chinese Snuff Bottles"
(C
atalogue by L. Kardos and J. E. Horvath)
This exhibit featured snuff bottles from members' collections as well as collections from the Centennial Museum and the Anthropology Museum of UBC.
1976 - "Within the Potter's House"

Catalogue by J. Fahrni, and J. E. Horvath)
This show consisted of 207 pieces of pottery and porcelain from the early stone-age to the eighteenth century from many parts of the world.

1974 - "One Hundred Treasures of Japanese Art"

1971 - "The Talking Jars"
(Catalogue by Dr. C. Gunn)
The exhibition attracted international attention for its display of Chinese export ceramics and won praise in cities across Asia, Europe, and North America.

1969 - "An Asian Art Display"
The very first exhibition of the Society, held for 3 weeks at the Vancouver Public Library.
